Wesley

One of the most incredible things that happened to me when I returned to Haiti this past February was seeing Wesley again. When I lived in Haiti in 2006, I always had such a heart for this little boy. He claimed that he and his sister were orphans, and daily hung outside of our gate asking for food (they were not part of our orphanage). He had such a sweet spirit and was always such a blessing to be around. When I returned to the states, I sent him this picture above and wrote on the back of it. Little did I know that it would mean so much to him. Below: Wesley & I in 2009 This past February when my mom and I went back to visit, I asked a few people where Wesley could be (because he was no longer hanging outside of the house). I soon found out that him and his sister did in fact have a mother, and they now lived in the ravine (a very poor area below our house where shoeless, half-clothed children run around and are rarely ever able to eat: thanks be to God though for our feeding program that is able to feed some of these malnourished children 3 times a week!). We went down to the ravine during our stay and all of a sudden i hear "DANA!" It was Wesley running out to greet me! He told me to stay where I was while he ran into his little shack and came out with a photo album. He opened it up and there was the picture I had sent him with my writing on the back. They have seen so many floods in the last 3 years, i don't know how he kept it in perfect condition. It meant the world to me that he cared enough about it to keep it in good condition. God is so good!
